Steph has come up with a great alternative\, weighing down your patterns with Polymer Clay Pattern Weights! \nPlease join us on October 19th at the Prairie Hill Community Room. All supplies will be included in a kit. We will have several craft ovens to bake the clay in. So just come and have a good time crafting with friends. The weights will be in the shape of donuts and will include the box to present them with. This would make a great Christmas gift for your sewing friends. The only thing you will need to do at home afterwards is to glaze the donuts and allow them to dry. DESCRIPTION:We’ve asked Lorraine Torrence to return for the March 31st Fifth Saturday to continue sharing sewing techniques that add professional and couture looks to garments. Members expressed that they enjoyed what she had time to present last July and she has many more ideas to share. \nMorning session: we will explore Button Strategies\, including fabric treatments for covered buttons\, stacked buttons\, mixing styles of buttons and buttons as embellishments rather than closures; Threadwork\, including straight line stitching as embellishment\, couching\, bobbin work and free motion stitching; and Bias and Straight of Grain Tapes\, both as functional coverings for raw edges and decorative appliqué. Students will have a hands-on chance to try out most of these techniques. If you want to make the items presented in the session you will need the items on the supply list. \nSupply List:\n-Any fabric scraps you wish to use to cover buttons\n-Any fabric scraps you wish to use to try out threadwork samples (solids best)\n-Any decorative threads you have which you’d like to use\n-Any cotton fabric cuts you wish to use to make bias tape (fat quarter minimums.)\n-1 yd. of light weight knit or woven fusible interfacing\n-Scissors\, Rotary Cutter\, 18″ x 24″ cutting mat and 24″ ruler\, wash-out marker\n-Sewing machine with zigzag capability\, extra bobbins\, extra bobbin case if you have one\, an all-purpose foot\, any couching feet you have\, darning foot for free motion if you have one\, free motion cord couching foot if you have one\, edge stitch foot if you have one. Sewing Machine needles from 80/12 to larger eyed needles (90-110) to accommodate thicker threads. \nIf you want to use Lorraine’s materials\, there will be a $10 supply fee for the morning section to cover a selection of covered buttons\, a small amount of interfacing for the buttons\, the use of paint sticks\, stencils\, embroidery threads and other supplies. More covered buttons will be available for sale. \nAfternoon session:  hands-on workshop in the afternoon on using discharge paste. In this session\, we will take the color out of fabric with discharge paste and bleach pens. Samples can be tried on different colors of cotton fabrics (the darker the better.) We will apply the discharge paste by painting\, scraping\, stenciling\, stamping and other methods. \nSupply List:\nAny scraps of dark cotton fabric\, either commercial or hand dyed you wish to try discharging.\nAny stamps or stencils you have that you wish to try.\nFreezer paper\nScissors\, an apron to protect your clothes\, paper towels\nBleach pens\nParticipants should bring their own discharge paste they purchased in July.\nDischarge paste in 8 oz jars\, Synthropol and Bleach Pens and fat quarters of various fabrics will be available for sale if you wish to purchase these to use at home. \nIf you want to use Lorraine’s supplies\, there will be a $5 supply fee for the afternoon session to cover discharge paste provided to try out different applications\, as well as the use of bleach pens\, freezer paper and other provided supplies. \nTIME: 9 am to noon\, lunch break\, 1 pm to 4 pm \nREGISTRATION COST: Register early to save! DESCRIPTION:National speaker Lorraine Torrence will present Creative Clothing for Every Body followed by It’s all in the Details. \nCreative Clothing for Every Body is a lecture\, trunk show and discussion of how we can all choose clothing that flatters our body types and make us look better. The presentation includes a discussion of the main three things that garment-makers have to think about: Color\, Style and Fit and ways we can improve on all of these things. This three hour segment will be followed by a one hour lunch break. Lunch is on your own. \nIt’s all in the Details is a Power Point Slide presentation of all of the small but powerful details that can turn a ho-hum garment into a dynamite garment! Lorraine will share garment-changing details such as decorative darts & dart placement\, non-traditional buttonholes\, spectacular covered buttons\, and edge finishes. Members are encouraged to bring a garment and questions so we can brainstorm on improvements. Create a pressing mat that serves double duty that’s perfect for toting home a hot iron. \n$10 event cost must be mailed to Darlene Hawkey-Cruikshank to hold your spot. Limited to Milwaukee Chapter ASG Members.\n \nSupplies to bring: \n\nOutside fabric at least 19 inches by 25 inches (pick something fun\, that you love)\n1 inch binding\, or fabric to make binding for the edges (coordinate it with your fashion fabric)\nCotton or nylon webbing for handles (2 pieces at least 21 inches each) or fabric and stabilizer to\nmake handles (2 lengths at least 4 inches by 21 inches) It is your choice…bring longer pieces for an\nover-your-shoulder or the 21 inches for tote length.\n2 matching buttons (I suggest at least ½ inch or bigger)\nBasic sewing supplies (such as coordinating thread\, scissors\, pins or clips for binding\, marking\npens or chalk\, an extra needle…just in case)\nSewing machine (or share with a friend)
