DESCRIPTION:Pamela Jablonsky will lead us in this hands-on make-and-take event. See below for what to bring. The second CAB meeting of the year will follow at 12:15. All members are welcome to join that meeting too. \nTo make a Japanese please bring: \n\nAccurately cut patterns:  an 8 x 9” rectangle and an 8” square. Because these pattern pieces are small and few\, it’s worth investing in a sheet of pattern mylar (plastic) from JoAnn’s or the like.  These make for quick accurate tracing.\nFabric.  Two types:  main fabric and lining\, both  in quilting-weight cotton.  You’ll be cutting four 8 x 9” and one 8” square pieces out of each\, plus a long (24 inches or so) 2-1/2 inch ribbon of the outer bag fabric   Two fat quarters should do it.  But this is an ideal place to use up scraps from your sewing projects!  To get a head start on your rice bag\, cut your fabric at home and arrive at the meeting with the pieces in hand.   Spray starch highly recommended to stabilize the fabric before you cut\, and be sure to cut on grain.\nA handful of long straight pins — Clover flower pins are ideal here.\nSturdy scissors to cut fine interfacing fleece.\nSewing machine and neutral thread.  Most of the stitching will be hidden from sight.Fleece will be provided (though you’ll need to cut it to size).  Drawstrings of several different types will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Katherine Stephens is Milwaukee’s custom fashion designer\, creating high quality\, made to fit clothing. Come hear about her design experiences with couture fashion houses\, see her sketches\, artwork\, and fabrics from travels\, and learn about how department stores design samples!!! \nKatherine is Milwaukee’s hidden secret in our community\, creating high quality\, made-to-fit clothing\, specializing in mother of the bride’s dresses (as they need special fittings) and 2nd marriages (as they want something different…not a run of the mill like David’s Bridal and the big box stores). \nCome hear Katherine’s story from her education as an art student from UWM-Madison to working for a gold smith jeweler to moving on to London and working under Tomasz Starzewski\, Couture Fashion House. Starzewski designed for Princess Diana. \nKatherine served as Starzewski’s intern and will share her “celebrity insights.” She met Margaret Thatcher and much more. Fashion is her passion! Katherine taught at Mount Mary College and designed for Bon-Ton (Boston Store)\, and her own design house Sophisticated Rose for over 20 years. \nKatherine will showcase her client hand sketches (croquis)\, prints of artwork in fashion illustration from Mount Mary\, pictures of her studio\, talk about accounts such as Kohls and Macy’s and how those companies design samples. She will bring a small variety of designer samples and a special surprise from the Ebony Fashion Show from the Milwaukee Art Museum\, including fabrics from her travels to Rome and France–Carolina Herrera\, Oscar de la Renta\, and Missoni\, Italian fashion fabrics. \nKatherine is very energized to talk to our group as she loves designing and sewing!!
